Electric Shocker! Yamaha EC-06 Launches In India With 169 Km Range At Rs. 1.67 Lakh

Yamaha enters India’s electric two-wheeler market with the EC-06 electric scooter, priced at Rs. 1.67 lakh. It offers a 169 km range, 4 kWh battery, IP67 protection and smart connectivity features.

India Yamaha Motor has officially entered India’s fast-growing electric two-wheeler market with the launch of the EC-06 electric scooter. Priced at Rs. 1,67,600 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the new model marks an important milestone for the Japanese brand as it begins its electric mobility journey in the country. The EC-06 has been designed mainly for urban commuters, focusing on practicality, efficiency and ease of use for everyday city riding.

Initially, sales of the EC-06 will be limited to select cities and will be handled exclusively through Yamaha’s Blue Square premium dealerships. This phased rollout approach reflects Yamaha’s strategy to closely manage customer experience, service quality and feedback during the early stages of its electric vehicle (EV) presence in India.

Designed for City Life

The Yamaha EC-06 has been positioned as a city-focused electric scooter, meant for daily commuting rather than sporty riding. It comes in a single Bluish White colour option, giving it a clean and modern appearance. The overall design is simple yet muscular, with an upright stance that helps riders feel confident while navigating traffic-heavy urban roads.

The scooter features a horizontally oriented core structure, which Yamaha says improves balance and stability. Its proportions are tuned for easy handling, making it suitable for riders of different age groups and experience levels. Interestingly, the EC-06 has been developed as a close associate to the River Indie, sharing similarities in its design philosophy and focus on practicality.

Electric Motor and Battery Setup

Powering the Yamaha EC-06 is an Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM), paired with a fixed 4 kWh battery pack. This setup produces a peak output of 6.7 kW (around 9 hp) and a maximum torque of 26 Nm. These figures are well-suited for city riding, offering smooth acceleration and strong low-speed performance.

The electric scooter has a claimed top speed of 79 kmph, which is more than adequate for urban use and short highway stretches. One of the biggest highlights of the EC-06 is its certified riding range of 169 kilometres on a single charge, placing it among the longer-range electric scooters currently available in India.

Charging and Battery Warranty

In terms of charging convenience, the EC-06 supports standard household power sockets, making it easy to charge at home without any special infrastructure. A full charge takes approximately eight hours, which is ideal for overnight charging.

Yamaha is offering a battery warranty of three years or 30,000 kilometres, whichever comes first. This warranty coverage adds reassurance for buyers who may be new to electric vehicles and concerned about long-term reliability.

To improve durability and reliability, Yamaha has ensured that both the motor and battery pack are IP67 certified, offering strong protection against dust and water. Other electronic components are rated at IP65, further enhancing the scooter’s ability to handle Indian road and weather conditions.

Riding Modes and Everyday Features

The Yamaha EC-06 comes with three selectable riding modes:

  • Eco Mode, which prioritises maximum range
  • Standard Mode, offering a balanced mix of performance and efficiency
  • Power Mode, which delivers quicker acceleration when needed

These modes allow riders to adjust the scooter’s behaviour based on traffic conditions, riding style or battery level.

For added convenience, Yamaha has also included a Reverse Mode, which helps riders manoeuvre the scooter easily in tight parking spaces or crowded areas—an especially useful feature in urban environments.

Suspension, Brakes and Safety

Suspension duties on the EC-06 are handled by telescopic front forks with hydraulic dampers, while the rear gets a coil spring unit. This setup is tuned for comfort, helping absorb bumps and uneven surfaces commonly found on city roads.

Braking hardware consists of 200 mm disc brakes at both the front and rear. These are supported by a Combi Brake System (CBS), which improves braking balance and safety, especially for less experienced riders.

Display, Lighting and Connectivity

The Yamaha EC-06 features a colour LCD display, which clearly shows important rider information such as speed, battery level, riding mode and other system alerts. The screen is designed to be easy to read even under bright sunlight.

All lighting on the scooter is LED, including the headlamp and tail lamp, ensuring good visibility while also improving energy efficiency.

Connectivity features are enabled through the Yamaha Motor Connect R application. Using this app, riders can access vehicle-related data and smart functions directly on their smartphones, adding a layer of convenience and modern tech appeal.

Practical Storage and Usability

Practicality is a key focus area for the EC-06. The scooter offers 24.5 litres of under-seat storage, which is enough to carry everyday essentials such as a helmet, bag or groceries. This makes it well-suited for daily commuting, errands and short trips around the city.

The flat, user-friendly design and comfortable seating position further enhance the scooter’s usability, especially for riders who spend long hours commuting in traffic.

Yamaha’s Vision for Electric Mobility

Commenting on the launch, Hajime Aota, Chairman of Yamaha Motor India Group, said that the EC-06 represents an important step in Yamaha’s journey toward sustainable urban mobility.

He highlighted that as India moves towards a carbon-neutral future, Yamaha aims to support this transition through high-quality electric products. According to him, the EC-06 has been designed specifically for everyday commuting, offering a strong balance between efficiency, performance and ease of use.

A Strong First Step in India’s EV Space

With the launch of the EC-06, Yamaha has made a carefully planned entry into India’s electric two-wheeler segment. Instead of chasing aggressive performance numbers, the company has focused on range, reliability and daily usability, which are key priorities for Indian buyers.

The long claimed range, solid build quality, premium dealership network and Yamaha’s brand trust could help the EC-06 attract urban commuters looking for a dependable electric scooter. While its availability is limited for now, the EC-06 clearly signals Yamaha’s long-term commitment to electric mobility in India.

As the EV market continues to grow, the EC-06 sets the foundation for Yamaha’s future electric offerings, making it an important launch for both the brand and Indian consumers.
