JSW Motors Teases First SUV for India – Plug-In Hybrid Power, 139 KM EV Range & Premium Features Expected

JSW Motors has officially teased its first-ever SUV for the Indian market, and it’s already creating serious buzz. Expected to launch around Diwali 2026, this upcoming model will be assembled at the company’s plant in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra.

With dealer appointments already underway in major cities, JSW Motors is clearly laying the groundwork for a strong nationwide entry.

Industry reports suggest the SUV will be based on the Jetour T2, a global model underpinned by Chery’s Kunlun monocoque platform.

In international markets, the SUV measures:

  • Nearly 4.8 metres in length (including rear spare wheel)
  • Over 2 metres in width
  • Close to 1.9 metres in height
  • A generous 2,800 mm wheelbase

This means Indian buyers can expect a spacious cabin and a commanding road presence.

Strong Off-Road DNA

The globally sold Jetour T2 offers impressive off-road credentials:

  • 220 mm ground clearance
  • 39° approach angle
  • 30° departure angle

An intelligent all-wheel-drive system supplied by BorgWarner is available overseas.

While the India-spec model may differ, the SUV is expected to retain its rugged and lifestyle-oriented appeal.

Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain for India

Globally, the SUV gets a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine producing over 250 hp and 390 Nm torque.

However, for India, the focus is likely to shift to a 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid (PHEV) setup. The highlight?

Up to 139 km EV-only range (NEDC cycle)

This could make it one of the most practical long-range plug-in hybrid SUVs in its segment — combining electric driving for city use with petrol backup for long highway trips.

  • Massive 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system
  • 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster
  • Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor
  • Wireless smartphone connectivity
  • Fast and smooth user interface

Expected premium features may include:

  • Leatherette or suede upholstery
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Multi-colour ambient lighting
  • 12-speaker Sony sound system

The rear seats can fold flat to create a lounge-like space, and boot capacity could range between 400 to 800 litres, depending on configuration.

Advanced Safety & ADAS

The upcoming SUV is also expected to offer Level 2 ADAS features, including:

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane keep assist
  • Autonomous emergency braking
  • 540-degree camera system with underbody view

These features could position it strongly in the premium SUV space.

Designed by a Porsche Veteran

The SUV’s bold, squared-off styling has reportedly been shaped under the guidance of former Porsche designer Hakan Saracoglu, adding a strong global design influence to its character.
