New BMW iX3 Debuts at CES 2026 With Alexa+ AI, 805 Km Range; India Launch Expected Soon

BMW has unveiled the all-new iX3 at CES 2026, showcasing Alexa+ AI integration, next-gen EV tech and a class-leading 805 km range.
Built on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform, the electric SUV is expected to launch in India soon.

The all-new BMW iX3 has made its global debut at CES 2026, and it is much more than just another electric SUV. This model is special because it is the first production vehicle based on BMW’s new Neue Klasse architecture, a platform that will shape the future of the brand’s electric cars. According to BMW, the technologies showcased in the iX3 will gradually be introduced across nearly 40 upcoming models by 2027.

With a focus on smart AI features, long driving range, ultra-fast charging and next-generation driving assistance, the new iX3 clearly signals where electric mobility is headed. An India launch is also expected in the near future, making it a very important model for BMW’s EV roadmap in the country.

Neue Klasse Platform: Foundation of BMW’s EV Future

The 2026 BMW iX3 is built on BMW’s all-new Neue Klasse platform, developed exclusively for electric vehicles. This architecture has been designed to improve efficiency, reduce energy losses and support advanced software-based features.

BMW claims energy losses are reduced by up to 40 per cent compared to its previous-generation electric models. At the same time, the platform helps lower vehicle weight and manufacturing costs, making future EVs more scalable and efficient.

This platform is also software-first in nature, allowing seamless integration of AI systems, digital services and driver assistance technologies.

Panoramic iDrive & BMW Operating System X

Inside the cabin, the BMW iX3 introduces a completely new digital experience. The highlight is the Panoramic iDrive system, which works together with the brand-new BMW Operating System X.

Instead of a traditional dashboard layout, the iX3 features a wide panoramic display that projects essential driving information across the lower part of the windscreen. This keeps the driver’s eyes closer to the road while still providing navigation, speed and alerts.

The user interface is cleaner, more intuitive and highly customisable. Touch, voice and steering-mounted controls work together smoothly, making daily driving simpler and safer.

New Personal Assistant With Amazon Alexa+ AI

One of the biggest upgrades in the new BMW iX3 is its next-generation Personal Assistant, now enhanced with Amazon Alexa+ AI integration.

Powered by a large language model, this assistant can:

  • Understand natural, conversational voice commands
  • Respond contextually instead of using fixed phrases
  • Handle multiple requests in a single command

For example, drivers can ask the system to adjust climate settings, start navigation, play music and even answer general knowledge questions without repeating wake words. The assistant controls both vehicle functions and connected digital services, making the cabin feel more intelligent and human-like.

Entertainment, Apps and In-Car Gaming

When the vehicle is stationary, the BMW iX3 turns into a digital entertainment hub. Occupants can:

  • Stream content via Disney+
  • Watch videos through the TiVo-powered Video App
  • Play games using AirConsole
  • Join Zoom video calls, which automatically switch to audio-only when the car starts moving

BMW has also expanded its in-car app ecosystem with:

  • YouTube Music
  • New games like Hot Wheels: Xtreme Overdrive
  • Support for Bluetooth gaming controllers

These features are aimed at improving comfort during charging stops and long journeys, especially in an EV-focused lifestyle.

Sixth-Generation BMW eDrive: Power & Performance

The 2026 BMW iX3 uses sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology. It comes with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup producing:

  • 469 hp
  • 645 Nm of torque

This allows the electric SUV to sprint from 0–100 kmph in just 4.9 seconds, while the top speed is electronically limited to 210 kmph.

Despite its strong performance, BMW has focused heavily on efficiency. The improved motors, power electronics and lightweight design work together to deliver strong acceleration without compromising range.

800V Battery Architecture & 805 Km Range

A major highlight of the new BMW iX3 is its 800V battery system with cylindrical cells. The battery is integrated directly into the vehicle structure, improving rigidity and space utilisation.

Key battery details include:

  • Battery capacity: 108.7 kWh
  • WLTP-certified range: Up to 805 km

Charging performance is equally impressive:

  • With a 400 kW DC fast charger, the iX3 can add up to 372 km of range in just 10 minutes
  • 10 to 80 per cent charge takes approximately 21 minutes
  • Supports AC charging up to 22 kW

This makes the iX3 one of the fastest-charging electric SUVs in its segment.

Bidirectional Charging: Power Beyond Driving

The BMW iX3 also introduces bidirectional charging, expanding the car’s role beyond mobility. It supports:

  • Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) – power external devices
  • Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) – supply electricity to your home
  • Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) – send power back to the grid

These features are especially useful in markets moving toward renewable energy and smart grids, and they add real-world practicality to EV ownership.

“Heart of Joy” Control Unit: Smarter Driving Dynamics

Driving dynamics in the new iX3 are managed by BMW’s newly developed “Heart of Joy” control unit. This high-performance processor controls:

  • Drivetrain
  • Braking
  • Steering
  • Energy recuperation

BMW says this system processes data up to 10 times faster than conventional setups. As a result:

  • 98 per cent of braking scenarios are handled using regenerative braking
  • Friction brakes are used only during hard braking
  • Braking feels smoother and more predictable
  • Overall efficiency is improved

The system ensures better balance between comfort, performance and energy recovery during everyday driving.

Advanced Driver Assistance & Hands-Free Driving

The 2026 BMW iX3 comes with advanced AI-supported driver assistance systems. Adaptive cruise control and lane assistance remain active even during light steering or braking inputs, making highway driving more relaxed.

With the optional Highway Assistant, the iX3 offers:

  • Hands-free driving up to 130 kmph
  • Automated lane changes, confirmed by a simple glance
  • Extended Level 2 driver assistance for real-world conditions

These systems are designed to assist, not replace, the driver, keeping safety as the top priority.

India Launch Outlook

While BMW has not officially announced an India launch date, the strong focus on long range, fast charging and digital features makes the iX3 well-suited for the Indian premium EV market. Given BMW’s growing EV portfolio in India, the iX3 is expected to arrive sooner rather than later.
