The midsize SUV segment in FY26 was super competitive, but one SUV clearly dominated the game — the Hyundai Creta.

With total sales of 2,01,921 units, the Creta became the only SUV in its segment to cross the 2 lakh mark. Compared to FY25’s 1,94,871 units, it recorded a 3.6% growth, grabbing a strong 16.5% market share.

Creta Electric Adds Fresh Boost

The launch of the Hyundai Creta Electric has further strengthened Creta’s position. It’s adding new buyers to Hyundai’s already successful petrol and diesel lineup.

One big reason behind Creta’s success is the variety it offers:

  • 1.5L Petrol (NA)
    • Power: 115 PS / 144 Nm
    • Gearbox: Manual & IVT
  • 1.5L Turbo Petrol
    • Power: 160 PS / 253 Nm
    • Gearbox: Manual & 7-speed DCT
  • 1.5L Diesel
    • Power: 116 PS / 250 Nm

Competition: Still Strong, But Behind

Even though Creta leads, other SUVs also performed well:

  • Mahindra Scorpio – 1,78,800 units (+8.5%)
  • Mahindra Thar – 1,26,261 units (+48.8%)
  • Mahindra Bolero – 1.1 lakh+ units
  • Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder – 99,890 units (+65.4%)

On the other hand:

  • Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara saw a decline of nearly 30%
  • Kia Seltos stayed stable at 83,747 units

New players like the MG Windsor and EVs such as Mahindra XEV 9e, Mahindra XEV 9S and Mahindra BE 6 are also starting to make an impact.

The Hyundai Creta continues to rule because of its strong brand value, multiple engine options, competitive pricing, and now an electric version too.
