Top 15 Car Brands In July 2026: Maruti Suzuki Leads While Tata And Mahindra Stay Neck-And-Neck

India’s passenger vehicle market remained on a strong growth path in July 2026, even though sales dipped slightly compared to the previous month. With the festive season just around the corner, most carmakers reported healthy demand, helped by new launches and a growing preference for SUVs.

A total of 4,08,753 passenger vehicles were sold during July 2026, up from 3,45,107 units in the same month last year. That’s an impressive 18.4 per cent year-on-year growth. However, compared to June 2026, overall sales fell by 2.2 per cent, showing that the market took a small breather after a strong first half of the year.

There was no surprise at the top of the sales chart. Maruti Suzuki comfortably retained its lead, while Tata Motors and Mahindra were separated by fewer than 500 units, making the race for second place one of the biggest highlights of the month. Hyundai, Toyota and Kia also posted solid numbers to remain among India’s top-selling car brands.

Maruti Suzuki Stays Far Ahead

Maruti Suzuki once again proved why it remains India’s largest carmaker. The company sold 1,62,257 vehicles in July, posting a healthy 19.4 per cent increase over the same month last year.

Sales were slightly lower than June, but that did little to affect Maruti’s dominance. The brand ended the month with an impressive 39.7 per cent market share, meaning almost four out of every ten passenger vehicles sold in India carried the Maruti Suzuki badge.

Popular models like the Brezza, Fronx, Dzire, Swift, Ertiga and Grand Vitara continued to attract strong demand across the country.

Tata And Mahindra Continue Their Close Battle

The fight for second place remained extremely close.

Tata Motors held onto the position by selling 56,827 units, just 452 units ahead of Mahindra. The company posted an impressive 36.6 per cent year-on-year growth, one of the strongest performances among the leading manufacturers.

Mahindra wasn’t far behind, delivering 56,375 units during the month. Thanks to consistent demand for the Scorpio N, Thar Roxx, XUV700, XUV 3XO and Bolero, the SUV specialist reported 18.6 per cent annual growth.

The gap between Tata and Mahindra has become smaller over the past few months, and the competition is expected to become even more intense during the festive season.

Hyundai, Toyota And Kia Maintain Strong Momentum

Hyundai remained India’s fourth-largest passenger vehicle manufacturer after selling 47,788 units. The company reported 5.5 per cent growth compared to July last year and also improved over June, showing stable demand for the Creta, Venue, Exter and Verna.

Toyota secured fifth place with 29,470 units. The brand continues to benefit from strong demand for hybrid models such as the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Innova Hycross, while the Fortuner remains a favourite among premium SUV buyers.

Kia finished sixth after selling 25,470 vehicles, up 21.4 per cent year-on-year. SUVs and MPVs like the Seltos, Sonet and Carens Clavis continued to drive the company’s sales.

Renault And Nissan Steal The Spotlight

While the top six brands remained unchanged, some of the biggest success stories came from smaller manufacturers.

Renault posted an impressive 51.3 per cent growth, selling 3,500 units. The launch of the new-generation Duster has clearly given the brand a much-needed boost.

Nissan performed even better. The Japanese carmaker reported 2,691 units, registering a massive 73.1 per cent increase over last year. Newly launched SUVs like the Tekton and Gravite played a major role in this strong performance.
