Top 10 Hatchbacks in April 2025 – Swift Takes the Lead

In April 2025, the Maruti Suzuki Swift became the top-selling hatchback in India. With 14,592 units sold, it recorded a massive 256% growth compared to the same month last year. This success comes after the launch of the new-gen Swift in May 2024, which brought a fresh design, more features, and six airbags as standard.

Coming in second was the Maruti WagonR with 13,413 units sold, despite a 25% drop in sales compared to April 2024. Even though it’s still popular, its sales are slowly declining, likely due to the growing preference for SUVs.

The Maruti Baleno took third place with 13,180 units, but its numbers were also down by 6% year-on-year. It still remains a key player in the premium hatchback segment.

The Tata Tiago performed well, claiming the fourth spot with 8,277 units sold, up 22% from last year. It remains one of Tata’s strongest hatchbacks.

In fifth place was the Maruti Alto, which saw a sharp 38% drop in sales, totaling 5,606 units. Sales of entry-level hatchbacks like Alto are clearly being affected by the SUV trend.

The remaining five hatchbacks in the top 10 saw mixed results:

  • Hyundai Grand i10 Nios – 4,137 units (down 19%)
  • Toyota Glanza – 4,132 units (down 6%)
  • Hyundai i20 – 3,525 units (down 32%)
  • Tata Altroz – 2,172 units (down 58%)
  • Maruti Ignis – 1,936 units (up 1%)
