Top 25 Best-Selling Cars In India – May 2026: Dzire Stays No.1, Fronx And Ertiga Follow

The Indian passenger vehicle market remained strong in May 2026, with SUVs continuing to dominate buyer preferences. Out of the top 25 best-selling vehicles during the month, 18 were SUVs or utility vehicles, highlighting the segment’s growing popularity among Indian customers.

However, despite the SUV boom, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire once again emerged as the country’s best-selling passenger vehicle. The compact sedan recorded sales of 24,546 units, registering an impressive 36 percent year-on-year growth.

Maruti Suzuki enjoyed a highly successful month overall, placing 11 models in the list of the top 25 best-selling cars. The brand’s strong presence across hatchback, sedan, SUV and MPV segments helped it maintain its dominance in the Indian market.

Maruti Suzuki Occupies Top Three Positions

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx secured the second spot with sales of 20,686 units. The compact SUV witnessed a remarkable 52 percent increase compared to the same period last year, making it one of the fastest-growing vehicles in the country.

The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga completed a clean sweep for the brand by claiming third position. The popular MPV recorded sales of 20,350 units and posted a healthy 26 percent growth. Together, the Dzire, Fronx and Ertiga contributed over 65,000 units in May 2026.

The Tata Nexon followed closely in fifth place with sales of 19,100 units. The compact SUV recorded a healthy 46 percent growth, further strengthening Tata’s position in the highly competitive SUV segment.

Maruti’s Hatchbacks Remain Popular

Maruti Suzuki’s hatchback lineup continued to attract buyers. The Baleno secured sixth place with 18,396 units and posted a strong 58 percent growth.

The WagonR and Swift followed in seventh and eighth positions with sales of 18,076 units and 17,519 units respectively. Both models continued to remain among the most preferred hatchbacks in the country.

Scorpio Leads Mahindra, Creta Enters Top 10

Mahindra’s highest-selling model in May was the Scorpio. The SUV secured ninth position after recording sales of 15,774 units, reflecting a 10 percent increase over last year.

Hyundai’s Creta rounded off the top ten list with 15,253 units. While the midsize SUV remained one of India’s most popular models, its sales growth remained relatively flat compared to some of its rivals.

SUVs And MPVs Continue To Gain Ground

Several SUVs and MPVs featured prominently in the rankings. Models such as the Hyundai Venue, Kia Seltos, Kia Sonet, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Toyota Innova HyCross continued to attract strong demand from customers across different price segments.

The growing preference for larger, feature-rich vehicles has significantly boosted sales in both SUV and MPV categories over the past year.
