Hyundai Creta Hybrid and Kia Seltos Hybrid are expected to launch in India in 2027 with strong mileage, premium features and advanced hybrid technology to rival the Grand Vitara and Hyryder.

Next-Gen Hyundai Creta Hybrid & Kia Seltos Hybrid Could Shake Up India’s SUV Market In 2027

The hybrid SUV segment in India is slowly becoming more exciting and competitive. At present, the strong hybrid space is mainly ruled by the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. However, things may change in a big way in 2027 as Hyundai and Kia are preparing to enter the market with their own hybrid SUVs.

The upcoming Hyundai Creta Hybrid and Kia Seltos Hybrid are expected to bring a fresh challenge to the segment. Both SUVs are likely to attract customers who want better fuel efficiency, lower running costs and a more future-ready alternative to diesel vehicles.

Kia Seltos Hybrid Likely To Arrive First

Kia has already confirmed that a hybrid version of the next-generation Seltos is under development. Hyundai is also expected to follow the same path with the next-gen Creta Hybrid. While both SUVs could share many similarities, reports suggest that the Seltos Hybrid may launch first in India during early 2027. The Creta Hybrid is likely to arrive a few months later.

The two SUVs are expected to use a similar hybrid setup. A 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine could work together with an electric motor to deliver improved fuel economy and smoother performance. The hybrid system is expected to focus more on efficiency rather than sporty driving.

Mileage Could Be A Major Highlight

Fuel efficiency is expected to become one of the biggest selling points of these upcoming SUVs. Hyundai and Kia are reportedly targeting a mileage figure of around 25 km/l. If this happens, both models could become highly attractive for Indian buyers, especially considering rising fuel prices.

These hybrid SUVs will mainly target urban users and highway travellers who want lower fuel bills without switching completely to an electric vehicle.

e-AWD Technology May Be Offered Globally

Interestingly, the next-generation platform used for the upcoming Creta and Seltos can support an e-AWD system. This setup uses an additional electric motor to power the rear wheels, improving grip and stability on slippery roads.

Kia has already confirmed that the global-spec Seltos will get this technology in markets like the United States. However, India-spec versions are expected to remain front-wheel drive only. This decision could help Hyundai and Kia keep the pricing competitive in the Indian market.

Bigger And More Premium Next-Gen Creta

The next-generation Creta is expected to grow noticeably in size compared to the current model. Inspired by the Hyundai Crater concept, the SUV could look more futuristic and premium.

Reports suggest the new Creta may measure around 4.5 metres in length and get a wheelbase of nearly 2.7 metres. The larger dimensions are expected to improve rear-seat comfort and cabin space. Hyundai may also position it as a more premium SUV than before.

Premium Features Expected

Hyundai is likely to pack the next-gen Creta Hybrid with several premium features. Some expected highlights include:

  • Large touchscreen infotainment system
  • Fully digital instrument cluster
  • Powered driver seat with memory function
  • Ambient lighting
  • Powered tailgate
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • ADAS safety features
  • Six airbags

The SUV may also offer V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) technology. This feature allows the vehicle to supply electricity to external devices, making it useful for camping and emergency situations.

The Kia Seltos Hybrid is also expected to carry forward many premium features from the current model along with the new hybrid technology.

Hybrid SUV Segment Set For A Big Battle

With Hyundai and Kia preparing new hybrid SUVs, the midsize SUV segment in India could become much more competitive in the coming years. The Grand Vitara and Hyryder currently enjoy a strong position in the hybrid space, but the arrival of the Creta Hybrid and Seltos Hybrid could change the game completely.

Thanks to strong mileage, modern features and premium styling, both upcoming SUVs have the potential to become some of the biggest launches of 2027 in India.
